Elevated view down Pinckney Street on the Capitol Square. Pinckney Street, about 1865 from the corner of East Main and South Pinckney looking toward Lake Mendota. Bruen's Block is the large commercial building on the right. Next to it, across the East Washington intersection is the historic American House hotel where the legislature first met. On the left, horse-drawn buggies and wagons are hitched along Capitol Park fence. Bacon's Block is the building with the turret on its roof at the corner of Pinckney and Mifflin streets. It has a large sign on: 'State Journal'. |
