Timme Mill
View across lake of a four-story wooden mill with two wings, one with an oriel window. There is a building with a cupola, probably a granary, behind the mill. Large rock formations are on the left, and a high trestle bridge is on the right. |

In an email 6/17/09 from Catherine Sperl, Wisconsin Dells WI: The building is the Timme Mill. LaBar built the dam in 1857 for the original mill. The Timme Mill operated at the Mirror Lake Dam from 1843 to 1949 when the Kaminski family purchased the property and operated the mill until it burned down in 1957. The 1957 fire did major damage to the "upside down" bridge in the picture (thought to be the only one of its kind in WI). Traffic was restricted to one lane one vehicle at a time until it was replaced in May 1986. They stripped off the blacktop, decking and guardrails before torching both ends of the old bridge and it fell 75 feet intact without bending, twisting or cracking." |
