PD-40 in Stone Crusher
Men stand near a stone crusher powered by an International PD-40 power unit. The crusher was owned and operated by Coy Hawk. Two buildings stand in the background; the building on the left appears to be a chapel or schoolhouse with a bell tower on the roof, and the building to the right appears to be a residence. |

The original caption reads: "PD-40 installation in stone crusher owned and operated by Coy Hawk, Long Bottom, Ohio. Pulverizing limestone for agricultural purposes. Producing 4 tons per hour, averaging 1 gallon of Diesel fuel per ton, costing 8 cents. Mr. Hawk was not present at the time but his son stated they have a great demand in this locality for their product and cannot supply the demand. They do not have a limestone deposit on their land suitable for the product and have it hauled in. This motor has been running about three years, he stated, without any repairs of any kind. Occasionally they have some trouble in starting. Motor is driving a 6 x 13 Day pulverizer, manufactured in Knoxville, Tennessee. Here is a great field for farmers who have a limestone deposit on their land and wish to add to their farm income. Hawk stated the demand is growing greater every year. He knows of no one else in the community supplying the material." |
