Field Fruit Company Truck
An International L-195 truck owned by the Field Fruit Company parked at an open-air roofed building at a wharf alongside another vehicle. The original caption reads: "The new L-195 International with 30-foot Fruehauf trailer recently purchased by the Field Fruit Company is shown at a wharf in the Port of Brownsville taking on a load of bananas. The bananas were coming direct by a long chain conveyor from a ship which brought the bananas from Southern Mexico and then by another conveyor placed at right angles to the long conveyor to the inside of the big van-type trailer. The Field Fruit Company is located in Memphis in the Texas Panhandle of Northern Texas. The company utilizes two other International transport Internationals (KB-8 and KB-7) beside that shown. They are operated within a radius of 125 miles in Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. The new L-195 shown has a wheelbase of 133 inches. It makes the long trip to Brownsville two to four times a week. The full load consists of 650 bunches of bananas totaling 25,000 to 30,000 pounds. The Port of Brownsville, located just outside the city of Brownsville, is becoming quite an important point for the delivery of bananas from the Isthmus of Tehauntepec. Over 100,000 tons have been delivered the past year and also in 1949. Some 85 percent of these bananas go from the port in motor trucks." |
