Star Mines Company Truck
An International KB-8-F dump truck owned by the Empire-Star Mines Company, Limited, parked in front of several buildings with its bed raised to ore(?). A man is standing on the running board on the driver's side to watch the dumping. The original caption reads: "There is a lot of gold-mining history dating back to the turbulent days of 1854 depicted in the background of this picture of an International KB-8-F dump truck owned by the Empire-Star Mines Company, Limited, of Grass Valley, California. It shows a head frame 116 feet high, located directly over the company's central shaft. This shaft is vertical and 3650 feet deep. Two miles away is the company's Empire Shaft, and there is also the Pennsylvania shaft. Operations are now conducted on a limited scale because of Government restrictions on gold mining decree, and so the ore taken from the Central shaft shown is transported by motor truck to the mill at the Empire shaft instead of the mill at the Central shaft. Besides the truck shown an International K-6 is used to haul the ore to the other stamp mill two miles away. Each truck makes about 25 round trips a day." |
