Mabel Tainter Memorial Library
Exterior view of the Mabel Tainter Memorial Library. The library opened in 1891 and was funded by a $95,000 gift from Captain & Mrs. A. Tainter. Detailed carved stone archway over the main entrance that reads: "1889." Above the columns it reads: "Mabel Tainter Memorial." Richardsonian Romanesque style stone building with turrets. Three boys stand in front of the library near a railing, and striped awnings are over the windows. Additional notes from "Some Wisconsin Library Buildings, 1904." Population 5,655. Borrowers 2,547. Circulation 31,978. Volumes 8,536. Tax $400 This building, housing the Memorial Free Library, was erected in 1889, at a cost, fully equipped, of $125,000, a gift to the public from Capt. and Mrs. Andrew Tainter, of Menomonie, as a memorial of their daughter. |
