International Trucks at Camp Pendleton Training Camp
Two International trucks follow a dirt path into and out of a small valley at a Marine Corps Motor Transport School Training Command Camp. The school was located at Camp Joseph H. Pendleton. The original caption reads: "Most spectacular of the numerous uses to which International motor trucks are put at Camp Pendleton are those of four-wheel-drive and six-wheel-drive units in the Motor Transport School Training Command Camp. Some 45 trucks are continually employed in the training course and because of the unusually difficult operations which trainees must subject the trucks up and down near precipitous slopes, across deep gullies and in cross-country night driving without lights, wrecks are numerous and frequent replacements therefore are necessary. The training course lasts 8 weeks and training drivers grouped in two classes. The pictures both action and still (simulated action) show eight Model M-2H-4 four-wheel drive and two Model M-5N-6 six-wheel-drive Internationals with training Marine drivers at their wheels putting the trucks through their paces over very difficult mountain terrain." |
