ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The inscription on the stone may not be entirely accurate. A letter written by Lucile Kellar, curator of the McCormick Collection, on August 24, 1961 describes an anvil stone on the McCormick factory grounds: "In front of one of the buildings in the Works grounds, I think it is the hospital, is the old anvil stone and anvil that came from the tilt hammer shop of Selah Holbrook of Port Republic, Virginia. Holbrook made sickles for C. H. McCormick in the 1840s." [McC Mss AB, box 33]
