Bernadette A. Esser died of appendicitis at the age of 21 in 1924.

This collection is snapshots of small town life, ca. 1917-1924, from the portrait studio of Matthew Witt where photo-finishing for others was also done. Images consist of people engaged in various daily and leisure activities.

The image appeared in the August section of the 1992 Wisconsin Historical Calendar.
