Farmall Regular and Experimental Cotton Picker
Studio shot of a Farmall Regular tractor and an experimental spindle type cotton picker. Original caption reads: "New McCormick-Deering Spindle Type Cotton Picker Pulled and Operated by General-Purpose Farmall Tractor. This machine is still in the semi-experimental stage of development. It has been designed for use in the lowlands and other sections of the Old South where the entire crop cannot be picked at one time owing to long season and uneven ripening. The machine is equipped with two vertical picking cylinders, which carry a large number of spindles. These spindles work horizontally and are close enough together so that at least one of them will come in contact with every open boll on the plant. The mechanism of the picker is operated by power taken directly from the tractor engine by power take-off shaft." |
