Brian Willson Gives the Peace Sign
Brian Willson, Vietnam veteran who lost both legs during a demonstration in 1987, holds up his arm to give the peace sign to audience at a New York peace conference in 1988. The Vietnam Veterans Against the War banner behind him indicates the VVAW's ongoing opposition to American foreign policy. Willson was not an anti-war activist during the Vietnam era, but he gradually became one in the peace movement and lost his legs as a result of a demonstration against U.S. actions in Nicaragua. |
