Published in the "Wisconsin State Journal" on Feb. 27, 1949. During the Spanish Civil War, Mrs. Llerandi and six of her children were forced to flee from Spain to southern France. When World War II broke out the Quakers arranged for the five younger children to come to the U.S. Mrs. Llerandi and her oldest daughter remained in Europe. The Committee for the Care of European Refugee Children brought the children to Madison in 1942. |
