Governor Rennebohm Welcomes French Vice Consul
French representatives arrived in Madison aboard the French Gratitude Train (Merci Train) and were welcomed at the Northwestern Depot by the governor and his wife. Shown, left to right, are: Mme. Olga LeMonnyer; M. Jacques LeMonnyer, French vice consul from Chicago; Mrs. Mary Rennebohm; Governor Oscar Rennebohm and President E.B. Fred of the University of Wisconsin. The train was composed of 49 cars, each bearing gifts for one of the United States plus one car with gifts to be divided between Hawaii and Alaska, which had not yet been granted statehood. |
