Text on back reads, "SALAMANCA, A Province of Leon, in the North-western part of Spain. This picture is an exact representation of the costume of the people of the province, who are the Ancient Castilians. They are very proud and tenacious of preserving the characteristics of the warrior race from which they sprang. The sole occupation of the masses is Agriculture. The women are small, delicate and very reserved. The Capital City of Salamanca abounds in interesting specimens of the Romanesque and Renaissance styles of Architecture, and from its many colleges has been styled the Oxford of Spain. The Singer Manufacturing Co. have their office No. 30 Plaza Mayor, and have furnished this part of Old Castile with thousands of their Improved Machines." |
