ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Jones Island was a marsh island located between the Milwaukee and Kinnickinnic Rivers in Milwaukee, just south of the harbor entrance. Polish immigrants settled the island in the 1870s and it eventually became a small village of approximately 1600 people as well as a center of commercial fishing. The village was eventually torn down for a sewage treatment plant. The last fishing shanty was demolished in 1961. From Ackerman, Sandra. Milwaukee Then and Now.
