Morris Family Portrait
Informal portrait of the W.A.P. Morris family, with the patriarch seated at the head of the table at the left, and his children and grandchildren. Portraits of his forebears, including Revolutionary War General Jacob Morris, his father, hang on the wall. The two men standing in the back row have been tentatively identified as Morris' sons: A. Breese Morris and Charles M. Morris (right). Charles stands next to his wife, Mary Fairchild Morris, the daughter of Lucius Fairchild. A print of the Fairchild portrait by John Singer Sargent can be seen on the mantle, along with a photograph of Reuben Gold Thwaites, head of the Wisconsin Historical Society and a close family friend. |
