ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Page 24 of 70. Prophecy on page 23 reads, "Down in the shade of the many trees that border Lake Menomin, sits a solitary fisherman. He has been having fisherman's luck and as he scans the beautiful park that was once an impassable tangle of brush and rubbish; the stillness of the place recalls to his mind the many pleasant hours of his boyhood spent in his life's occupation. Throwing his line back into the water Hank Dahl reflects on the happy day when he with his fellow students labored diligently to cause an evolution of the once unsightly place." Hank Dahl exchanged his fisherman's luck for miner's luck when he travelled more than two thousand miles north-west to Douglas Island, Alaska, to refine gold in the Treadwell cyanide plant. At that time, the Treadwell mine was the largest gold mine in the world. We don't know if he was still working there when the mine collapsed in 1917. Henry Dahl fought in the First World War and, when coming back to Alaska, found work in a general store in Petersburg. Information about Henry Dahl has been researched from contemporary newspaper articles and genealogical resources.
