Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" Airplane in Madison

A crowd of adults and children looks over a JN-4HG gunnery trainer airplane / biplane which has landed in a field. Airplane has a black cat symbol in a circle and the number 44214 or 44216 on the side. Titled in the album "The First Aeroplane in Madison". "The feature of the flight was the delivery of a letter to Postmaster Devine from Pres. William F. Brooks of the Minneapolis Aero Club. This is the first aerial letter ever received in Madison and the first aerial postage stamp ever received here. The flyers are returning from a 3,000 mile run and have been making exhibition flights at state fairs." The Capital Times 9-4-1918. One of five airplane images taken over a two day period. |
