Santos Zingale (1908-1999), then an unemployed artist, working on the cartoon phase of a WPA mural he was painting in Racine. The preliminary sketch from which he is working can be seen at the lower right. In 1946 Zingale joined the University of Wisconsin Art Department, where he continued to teach until his retirement in 1946. |
