National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers
Hospital Buildings. Designed in 1879 by H.C. Koch, a local architect, the hospital plans were based upon the "pavilion system" then popular in certain parts of Europe. A three-story main building and two double-story pavilions were constructed of cream brick and slate roofs. Another notable feature was that every room had access to direct sunlight and fresh air. Caption reads: "Hospital Buildings, National Soldiers' Home, Milwaukee, Wis." |
