Melms-Schandein Residence
462 Virginia Street. The buildings on the left are the old Melms Brewery located at the south side of the Menomonee Valley. About 1857 C.T. Melms organized what was known as the Menomonee Brewery. Phillip Best acquired the Brewery in the early seventies. Mr. Emil Schandein (vice president of the Best Brewery) moved into the Melms residence and started to landscape and terrace the property. There is a brewery team going east (uphill). The Menomonee valley lies at the foot of the brewery. Information was verified by John G. Gregory and Frederic Heath. |
