Head and shoulders oval studio portrait of Erik N. Basness [as written on published Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 [Vol. 1] (1886); also written as Erik N. Basnes on published roster: Wisconsin Volunteers: War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 (1914) as Erik N. Basnes on Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20], a corporal of Company B, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform.  The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Koshkonong, Wisconsin. On December 22, 1861, he enlisted and was mustered into service in Madison, Wisconsin on December 22, 1861, at the age of 20.  He was injured and captured during the battle at Stone River, Tennessee on December 31, 1862.  He was released as a paroled prisoner of war and rejoined with Company B on January 19, 1863, and sent first to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. He was then transferred to a hospital near Murfreesboro, Tennessee on May 7, 1863.  On June 30, 1864 he was sent to a paroled prisoner camp at St. Louis, Missouri.  He mustered out of service with Company B on December 2, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee.
