L.C. and Daisy Bates with Men and KKK Cross

Daisy and L.C. Bates with two men and a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) cross that they found in their yard. Because this event preceded the integration crisis of 1957 in which the couple took a leading role, it is likely this racial harassment was aimed at their crusading newspaper, the "Arkansas State Press." The two men are presumably police investigators. |
