Madison Free Library
Madison Free Library, 206 North Carroll Street. There are two men standing on the sidewalk outside of the library. In addition, there are several automobiles parked in the parking lot and on the street. The original negative was used for the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Writer's Program Collection as an illustration for the book "Wisconsin: a Guide to the Badger State," 1941 (a WPA compilation). The library was built with Carnegie money and opened in 1906. The name changed to Madison Public Library in January 1959. This building was torn down in 1965 when the library moved to a new building at 201 West Mifflin St. |
