"Boycott Gimbels" Sign
Sign on street is protesting the Gimbels department store. Underneath the large text, it reads, "Gimbels, in building over the already inadequate 86 IRT Lexington Avenue Station, will draw thousands of customers to this subway stop. Even though Gimbels was given special zoning priveledges to build in the Yorkville neighborhood which had previously been residential, Gimbels refuses to undertake major improvements in its section of the station. Gimbels prefers to endanger the public safety rather than spend money to insure the welfare and comfort of its future customers. For Yorkville, Box 534, 10028." |
