The original caption reads: "Part of tractorette class conducted by Day & Perkins of Batavia, New York, was photographed on big truck farm in a muckland section near Elba operated by Porter & Bonney." "Tractorette Classes" were introduced by International Harvester Company in 1942 and intended to address the farm labor shortage created by U.S. war mobilization. The plan called for local dealers to offer free training for thousands of farm women and girls in the operation of tractors and other farm machinery. |
