Marine Drive
Marine drive that was a later component of a Great Lakes bulk carrier. This unit was purchased by the Electro Motive division of the General Motors Company. Original Falk caption reads, "Unit driven by three 900 RPM 3500 HP EMD engines. The port and starboard engines are mounted forwards and the vertical engine is mounted a foot over the propeller shaft. Propeller is a 120 RPM Bird Johnson controllable pitch propeller. Thrust bearing is a 31 inch Kingsbury and is mounted in its own cylindrical housing forward of the unit. This is the first unit with the thrust bearing mounted this way." Male employee in photograph is Don Ferch. |
