Cutter Head Drive
A male employee, Bill Hoppe, attends to a special cutter head drive. This product was purchased and used by the Great Lakes Dredge and Dry Dock company. Falk caption reads, "The cutter head drive is a replacement for a competitors which was not functioning correctly on the Dredge Georgia. The unit operates from a horizontal position to 60 degrees below horizontal with the low speed shaft downward. This photograph shows the unit being tested at a tilt of 50 degrees below horizontal to check on the operation of the marine type packing gland and to check on leakage and proper lubrication of the spherical roller bearings." |
