Employee Standing Near Roll Drive Pinion
This roll drive pinion was purchased by E.W. Bliss Co of Salem, Ohio, and later used by Empire Steel Company. Falk original caption reads: "Forging being placed in Lathe. 30-38 teeth, 1 DP, 72 inch face, 3-3/8 inch gap, 23 degree full depth tooth form, staggered herringbone teeth, 23 degree Helix angle, 4.63 axial overlap, 38.000 inch pitch diameter, 39.040 inch outside diameter, 24 inch shaft diameter, 180 inch shaft length. Pinions were manufactured from AISI 4350 forgings heat treated to 305-355 BHN. Rough weight of pinion forgings was 40,000 pounds each. Peak load transmitted by pinions is 6250 HP from 50 to 50 rpm. Pitch line velocity is 498 feet per minute AGMA surface durability rating is 6220 HP. Pinion drawing numbers are 318352 and 318353. Price per set of two pinions is $56,250. Pinions were ordered on Bliss purchase order SA75165 dated December 18, 1956. Pinions were quoted on Falk inquiry E5693-0790B." |
