Mural in Assembly Chamber

Interior of the Assembly Chamber in the Wisconsin State Capitol showing the mural painted by Edwin H. Blashfild. The painting depicts the "State of Wisconsin; its Past, Present, and Future." "Wisconsin" is seated in the center, surrounded by three female figures representing Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and the Mississippi River, and various historic figures from her past. The standing figure in the center represents "Today," pointing to the accomplishments of Wisconsinites in the distance. Behind her stand miners, farmers, and lumbermen with their families. At the far left, "Future" shelters her "Lamp of Progress" and listens to the spirit of conservation. The mounted eagle behind the Speaker's chair is a bald eagle, the same type as "Old Abe," a famous Wisconsin Civil War mascot. |
