Across the bottom of the map are engravings from each century of the history of the United States including; Columbus leaving Palos for America in 1492, Raleigh's first expedition landing at Roanoke Island in 1584, the Pilgrims landing at Plymouth in 1620, the Battle of Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War in 1775, Benjamin Franklin at the National Convention in 1787, and lastly, Fulton's first steamboat shown to an Indian. Within the map, there is an inset of a table with the populations of each state and a map of Mexico.
