Republican Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon wears the "I LIke Ike" button while standing on the floor of the national party convention in Chicago. Born in Wisconsin, Morse was raised as a La Follette Progressive. After Eisenhower selected conservative Richard M. Nixon as his running mate in order to placate the supporters of Joseph R. McCarthy, Morse left the party and became a Democrat. |
