Charles J. Kersten

Charles J. Kersten (1902-1972), a conservative Republican congressman from Wisconsin's 5th District. Kersten, a Milwaukee attorney, was elected to Congress in 1946, but defeated for re-election in 1948. In 1950 he was reelected and served four more years in Congress. During the period between his years in Congress (1950). In 1946 his campaign slogan was "Put Kersten in Congress and Keep Communism Out," Kersten worked as researcher and assistant in the office of Senator Joseph R. McCarthy. |
