Pierce House
The Pierce House, at 424 North Pinckney Street. This house was built about 1857 and was designed by architects Donnel and Kutzbock. One of the five fireplaces in the house, carved from Carrara marble in complex designs to reflect the mouldings and large, heavy ceiling pieces. Stylized classical motifs, such as the canthus leaf and egg-and-dart, and ninteenth century realism of flowers and fruit are intricately mixed with some early Renaissance forms to create an elaborate effect. |
