Photograph taken for International Harvester's Agricultural Extension Department. Folder: Fibre The original photograph caption reads: "Waiting for a bid on their cotton at the cotton market in front of court house at Florence, Feb. 9th, 1915. No one seemed very anxious to get this cotton, most of which had been at the market for several hours when photograph was taken during the afternoon. Judging from the looks of the mules drawing the loads they did not like cotton and did not get very much of anything to eat, caused no doubt, by the fact that their owners worked hard in the hot sun to kill grass, to grow cotton, to buy hay, and they were still trying to sell the cotton before buying the hay." |
