Kane's Hotel

Kane's Hotel, built in about 1839 by Ezekiel Tainter, and then called the Phoenix Hotel, on Main Street. It passed through many hands but retained the original name until Alonzo Kane bought it (date unrecorded in available sources). He sold it in 1861 to J. George Schweizer who held it until it was destroyed in a large fire on Nov. 8, 1873. If Schweizer changed its name, this photograph would date to before 1861, but no such change was mentioned in county histories. |
