Simeon Mills (farm) residence, 2709 Sommers Avenue. This Victorian Italianate residence was built from local sandstone in 1863. Mills, an early Madison settler and a prominent figure in commercial and governmental activities, lived here until 1868. The property was once known as "Mills Folly" for being located so distantly from the center of town. Later residents included J.W. Hudson, a leading industrialist, and Sam Miller, a nationally known opera and theater promoter. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
DESCRIPTION
Simeon Mills (farm) residence, 2709 Sommers Avenue. This Victorian Italianate residence was built from local sandstone in 1863.
