McDonnell-Garnhart Residence
The McDonnell-Garnhart residence, 424 North Pinckney Street. This Romanesque revival house was designed in 1857 by Samuel H. Donnel, the architect for the third Wisconsin Capitol, for contractor Alexander A. McDonnell. The latter used the same Prairie du Chien sandstone that was employed in building the Capitol, a project for which he also served as a contractor that year. McDonnell's residence is sometimes referred to by the surnames of its subsequent owners: Pierce, Garnhart, and Conover. |
