Mordecai Kelly Log Cabin

Exterior of the Mordecai Kelly log cabin, built by Mordecai himself in the late 1840's. The article attached to the photograph reads: "The aging tree stands like a sentinel, with limbs stretched out as though to protect the old house of hand-hewn logs. Note the axe-work at the corners of the house where the logs were notched. The house and tree stand five miles west of Monroe, Wisconsin, on Highway 11. The name on the mailbox is George R. Ellefson, but there was no one home when Photographer Bob Boyd stopped by. But now the occupants will know that someone else besides themselves thinks their home is beautiful." |
