30571 The city's first hospital, this facility was built in 1903 for the cost of around $26,000. The four and one-half acre site near the intersection of Chandler and Mills Streets was donated by Dr. J.B. Bowen and Mrs. Wayne Bowen Ramsey. Though the Common Council contributed a portion of the funds for construction, most of the money was raised by the Hospital Association's Women's Auxiliary from private donations. |
