In 1883, Henry Sigourney Butler settled in Superior where he set up a law practice. In 1889, he was appointed secretary and general counsel for the Superior Consolidated Land Co., organized to take over the interests of earlier speculators who had styled themselves the "Proprietors of the Townsite of Superior." Butler built a profitable practice in Superior, and later, in partnership with Charles L. Catlin, was attorney for the Northern Pacific R.R., the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha R.R., and various other railroad, mining, and industrial concerns. He was a director of the Superior National Bank of Commerce and helped organize the Superior Chamber of Commerce. |
