Newell Dodge House
A view looking southeast of the Newell H. and Helen Dodge residence at 1121 West Johnson Street, on the corner of North Charter Street. The house may have been built around 1850. It was demolished between 1962 and 1963 to enable construction of the University of Wisconsin Zoology Research building. Dodge came to Madison with his parents in 1850. He is first listed as residing here in 1875. He was then shown to be a clerk, later a merchant in the fuel business(1890), an insurance agent (1900), and finally an attorney (1902). He died in January 1934 at the age of 88. His obituary says he was a Madison councilman (5th Ward) and member of the Dane County Bar. His wife died in 1915. |
