Holtzhauzen House
The William H. Holtzhauzen house, 351 West Washington Avenue. A group of people are posing near the entrance. Holtzhauzen, a German immigrant carpenter and builder, put up the two-story brick structure in 1868. The house was later owned by Mathias J. Hoven, a meat merchant, packer, livestock dealer, alderman, and mayor, who transferred the property to his son-in-law John Hartmeyer. Hartmeyer continued ownership of the property until 1947. The house was demolished in 1980 to make way for the new Jackson Clinic building and parking ramp. |
