Hanukkah Ceremony

Hanukkah Ceremony - Abraham Anton uses a servant candle, called the Shamas, to light the first candle of Hanukkah Tuesday night as fellow students watch at the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study, 3288 N. Lake Drive. The Shamas may become the center candle or the top candle, depending on the style of the Menorah. Hanukkah, an eight-day Jewish festival, commemorates a miracle that occurred when a one-day supply of oil lasted eight days after Judas Maccabeus recaptured the temple at Jerusalem. |
