Ducharme/Grignon House
Ruins of the Ducharme/Grignon House in Kaukauna built during the French fur trade period of Wisconsin history. The left portion of the building was built as a trading post by French-Canadian Dominique Ducharme in 1791 and acquired by Augustin Grignon in 1813. Grignon added the right half of the house and resided there until completing a new house in 1838. Like most Wisconsin residents, Grignon was loyal to the British during the War of 1812 and he accompanied the forces that captured Fort Shelby at Prairie du Chien. Th Ducharnme/Grignon House was razed during the 1890s, the Grignon House, which still stands, is a museum. |
