This house was built by James Jack between March 23 and September 5, 1859. An extremely detailed description of the specs for the house is contained in a lawsuit filed October 31, 1859 (James Jack & Thomas T. Richardson vs Jairus H. Carpenter), found in Box 77 of Dane Series 109, Dane County Circuit Court Case Files, in the Wisconsin Historical Society Archives. The Carpenter house was razed to make way for the First Church of Christ Scientist building, constructed in 1929. (James Jack also built the Gates of Heaven synagogue in 1861.) |
