Hans Christian Heg, son of Even Hansen Heg, was born in Norway in 1829. He was appointed as State Prison Commissioner in 1859, and was commissioned as Colonel of the mostly-Norwegian 15th Wisconsin Infantry in September 1861. Heg was mortally wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga on 19 September 1863 and died the next day. He is buried in the Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery near Wind Lake, Racine County. |
