Packinghouse Workers Protesting at Armour and Co.
Packinghouse workers and their CIO supporters protest Armour and Company's "back-to-work" day, April 20, 1948. "The 'back to work' movement of Armour & Co., an effort to break the seven week old strike of the United Packinghouse Workers, failed to get any union members to return to their jobs. Union officials pointed out that fewer non-union workers crossed the lines than any day since the strike. Members of Local 50 [Plankinton Packing Company] and 32 [Armour and Company], who are demanding a 29 cent an hour wage increase, drew picket-line reinforcements from all CIO locals in Milwaukee Monday morning."
