William Arthur Jones was born in Wales in 1844; emigrated in 1851 with his parents, John P. and Phoebe Davies Jones, who settled near Mineral Point in Iowa County WI. In 1881 he married Sarah Ansley; they had four children: Agnes, William, Florence and Marian. He was appointed as U.S. Commissioner of Indian Affairs in 1897 and held that position until 1905, when he returned to Mineral Point. Along with two brothers he ran several zinc businesses. He died there in 1912. |
