Monona Avenue

Monona Avenue | Photograph | Wisconsin Historical Society
Attorney Albert G. Zimmerman took this photograph of Monona Avenue, with Lake Monona beyond, from the roof of the Madison Capitol about 1895. Across Main Street from the Capitol are the Monona Hotel on the right and the Pioneer Block on the left. Until 1894 Zimmerman was a law partner of Robert M. La Follette, Sr., in the firm La Follette, Harper, Roe, & Zimmerman that occupied offices in the Pioneer Block. In that year, the partnership dissolved to allow La Follette to pursue his political career. La Follette, Zimmerman, and Roe all moved down the street to adjoining, but independent offices in the Fairchild Block. It is likely that Zimmerman took this photograph, as well as Image ID #30695 to document his two office locations.
